On the same day after we finished visting Hallstatt, we start our long drive towards Vienna, arriving almost midnight, where we retired for the night.
Up early next morning we are off to our sight seeing. 1st stop is the Schönbrunn Palace where Maria Theresia, the only woman emperor in the 18th century made this palace a magnificent venue of her court life. Since then, this splendid palace had hosted leading statesmen of Europe. UNESCO listed this palace and its park as on of its World Cultural Heritage Sites in 1996. The magnificient Schönbrunn Palace is one of Vienna’s most popular historical tourist attractions that must not be missed when visiting there.
Done with our photography at the palace, we drove to the next attraction in Vienna, The Hundertwasserhaus.
This is very unique apartment house, built after the idea and concept of Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, thus it's name.
To indulge in the traditions of Austria, of course one must take a walk through its Vienna City Square to immerse in its rich cutural and architectural heritage.
And located within the central square, the magnificient St. Stehpen's Cathedrial. This the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vienna and the seat of the Archbishop of Vienna, Christoph Cardinal Schönborn, OP. The most important religious building in Vienna, St. Stephen's Cathedral is the venue for many important events in Habsburg and Austrian history. And with its multi-coloured tile roof beautifully adorning the cathedrial, it has become one of the city's most recognizable symbols.
And not far from central square is the beautiful Maria Theresa Square. She was the only female ruler of the Habsburg dominions and the last of the House of Habsburg. She was the sovereign of Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Bohemia, Transylvania, Mantua, Milan, Lodomeria and Galicia, the Austrian Netherlands and Parma. By marriage, she was Duchess of Lorraine, Grand Duchess of Tuscany and Holy Roman Empress.
And just beside this is the majestic Parliament House of Austria. A grand and awesome building to visit.
Austria, indeed a very beautiful country with many very scenic attractions to visit. With its rich historical heritage exhibited through its many building architectures, surely one would easily fall in love with her environments and like us feeling unwilling to leave Austria so soon.
